Have a brand in the health or wellness niche where you’re trying to grow your SEO traffic via link building?
I’m going to share how we helped brands grow their monthly organic traffic – like how we took this fitness news website, from 1 million visitors a month, to almost 3 million visitors a month.
We started working with this health & fitness news website back in early 2021, and worked with them for 3.5 years, helping them go from 1 million organic visitors a month, to reaching a peak of almost 3 million.
They had been scaling up the site for a number of years, had a strong writing team and editorial process in place, and came to us with a simple goal:
We used a range of tactics from – a “modified” skyscraper tactic, guest post outreach, resource links, resource page links
Links:
Within a period from March 2021 to Sept 2023, we built equivalent to 1500 links within that time.
Traffic:
We helped the site grow from ~1 million visitors to between 2.5 to 3 million organic search visitors per month
Note: While Ahrefs shows around 2.4 million, it was probably reaching peaks of closer to 3 million, by the end of 2022. Annually, we know that the client was getting over 30 million visitors per year organically (They didn’t run any paid ads or paid traffic.)
Here’s a monthly comparison between Sept 2023 and Sept 2022 to further illustrate growth between 2022 and 2023.
We had a UK-based company approach us in July 2023, which was a rehab information resource, that produced content on alcohol and drug rehab topics. The website would produce leads for the company’s own rehab clinics, as well as other rehab chains that they partnered with.
At the time of coming to us, they had a link profile of only 20% the size of the main competitor, and their link velocity had become stagnant since early 2022. They had become reliant on natural links, some occasional outreach and directory links.
So the goal here was:
Links: We secured over 70 links, by late Dec 2023.
Traffic: Initially we saw good traction, from July 2023, leading up to Sept 2023. The graphs above show the whole of Sept 2023 (47k monthly visitors) vs Sept 2022 (31k monthly visitors). A 52% increase on organic search traffic.
Full transparency – After acquiring 70 links, link building stopped at the end of Dec 2023 as after the Helpful Content update, the site was hit badly and other SEO work had to take over.
The work relating to EEAT, site structure, and refreshing of content had not been fully implemented and we advised it was best to work on that for 2024, to help with their recovery.
Now in 2024, going into 2025 – Without much link building work (other than redirects and internal links), the site is now starting to recover again.
